State Rep. Lynn Slaby wants to add the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to his lengthy resume.Slaby, a 73-year-old Republican from Copley Township, is one of 20 Ohioans who have applied to be a commissioner with the PUCO.He is serving his first term in the Ohio House and has filed to run again in the fall to keep his seat. Slaby is a retired appeals court judge and former Summit County prosecutor.He could not be reached for comment about why he is seeking the PUCO position.Applications to the PUCO Nominating Council were due Tuesday.The full-time, appointed position is for a five-year term that begins April 11. The five commissioners are paid $119,995 a year and help regulate utility services, telephone companies, water and wastewater companies, and rail and trucking firms.Slaby is the only person from the Akron area seeking the job, although applicant Michael Verich of Warren, a former state lawmaker, is a partner in the Ohio Brewing Co. in Akron.Others seeking the post are John G. Banner of Cincinnati, Paul A. Centolella of Worthington, Jon C. Dudley of Columbus, Patrick Garrett of Loveland, Mary Ann Groves of Covington, William G. Jennings of Toledo, Scott C. Johnson of Cincinnati, John Knuckles of Mason, Raymond G. Lorello of Powell, Douglas J. Loughead of Mason, Brian Miller of West Chester, Thomas C. Montgomery of Celina, Toni Perry Gillispie of Trotwood, David C. Rinebolt of Findlay, Charles V. Rupert of Holland, Kevin Schmidt of New Albany, Beth M. Trombold of Columbus, and Gregory W. Unterbrink of Van Wert.The PUCO Nominating Council will review resumes and recommend four finalists to Gov.
